Exterior Lighting
The Jewish Reconstructionist Congregation was built with the intent to model environmentally friendly practices in the local community. Eliminating light pollution was an especially high priority because the synagogue is located in an urban residential area. The site lighting uses only four exterior fixtures, all with full cut-off optics.
In addition, interior lights are prevented from spilling outside the building. For example, the ceremonial staircase is lit by a fluorescent fixture embedded in the central rail, and illuminates only the risers and treads.
