Product Certification and Testing for LEED for Schools IEQc4.5 and LEED-CI IEQc4.5

Option 1—GREENGUARD certification

The Greenguard website provides a clear outline of the necessary steps to certifying a product.

Project teams can not choose to certify products that they want to use for their projects. Manufacturers must choose to have their products certified. If there are certain products that a team would like to use, discuss the possibility of certification with the manufacturer.

  • Step 1: Manufacturers submit an online questionnaire about their company and the product to be certified. This provides necessary background information and direction to Greenguard. A Greenguard Technical Consultant will follow-up within 24 hours.
  • Step 2: Greenguard provides a proposed plan for testing outlining the appropriate scope, timeframe and estimated fees. Fees are dependent on a number of variables related to the product including testing procedures required, number of previous manufacturer certifications and expenses for travel or other direct costs for testing.
  • Step 3: Preliminary tests will be performed to determine if the product is likely to pass certification testing. Information will be provided to manufacturers giving them an opportunity to make adjustment to their manufacturing process and material selection to increase the likelihood of meeting certification requirements.
  • Step 4: Products will be tested following the Greenguard testing protocol.
  • Step 5: A complete product line can be tested in a single phase...
