To better serve projects teams working globally and using multiple green building rating systems the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is exploring commonalities between LEED and other systems that share the same mission, intent, effort and demonstration of leadership. The first step in this process begins with the BREEAMBuilding Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method, the first widely used green building rating system, developed in the U.K. in the early 1990s, currently used primarily in the U.K. and in Hong Kong. system. With this step, projects will be able to achieve points towards LEED certification, by demonstrating what has been done to corresponding credits in BREEAM.

You can find out more information in the BREEAM Equivalency Overview & FAQ.  We don't have all the answers yet, but we will be working with project teams to develop them.

What are your thoughts on this new announcement?  Will this affect your projects?
