I have seen several articles regarding LEED Automation, but not much concrete information (requirements, resources, etc.)  Does anyone have any information on LEED Automation, or where I can obtain information?

Does Automation promote integrated design?

On the page about Pilot Credit 5 John Albrecht proposed that Automation enabled project management tools can help make the design process more integrated. I believe he has in mind design & construction management tools such as LoraxPro, maybe also GreenGrade.  Does anyone have experience that might shed light on that suggestion? What other tools are people using? Here's what John said:

"Re: IDP and Automation, I am no Auto-head but here's my thinking. The LEED Automation products that I have seen feature improved information sharing, transparency, continuity, and, most importantly to IDP, team collaboration. Instead of separate LEED hoops (updating checklists, LEED status report, LEED online credit by credit access and updates, plus extra emails and phone calls) Automation's promise of one-stop shopping has to be appealing --even if not the end-all. How does this align with your impressions?"

LEED Automation

Adrianna, it sounds like one more article isn't what you're looking for, but here is a good one, in case it's helpful:

LEED App Store Coming Soon? USGBC Opens Up Data Flows

Beyond that, can you be more specific about what kind of concrete information you want to see? What kind of project are you doing, and how were you thinking of using LEED Automation?

I am currently researching how we can use Autodesk software (or free software) to obtain each LEED credit (making it easier with automatic schedules, tools within the program, etc.). However, past that, if we can use the "I" in BIM to bring the information over to create the actual documentation with LEED Automation, that would just take it one step further...I guess I just want to understant how LEED Automation will work as a process...

Adrianna, I totally agree with you that more information needs to made available on LEED Automation, and for that reason at the June Greening the Heartland Conference in Cincinnati, I moderated a session where USGBC key staff and seven authomation 'vendors' presented (both live and virtually) on 'LEED Automation--the Next Generation' in an effort to share basic information and industry benefits. There are plans for another session on this topic at Greenbuild 2011, and other events are in the works this year include a CCGT session in late fall and a USGBC IL Chapter event in Oct. If you know of upcoming presentation opportunites, please let me know. As more info becomes available, let us share it here--thanks LEEDuser for the solid support again.
